Our mission is to connect people with long-term health conditions with meaningful work
Astriid helps bridge the gap between the Invisible Talent Pool (people with long-term health conditions who wish to pursue volunteering or employment), and the UK skills crisis.
Founded by David Shutts OBE following his cancer diagnosis, we believe that the value of work is far more than the wages paid. Employment provides routine, a sense of normality, challenges and rewards, and when approached correctly, can also facilitate a greater sense of wellbeing.
Simon Short first met Astriid’s founder David Shutts as they were serving together in the Royal Navy. Years and years later, utilising his own skills and experience in the business world, Simon is committed to continuing David’s legacy and helping Astriid to become more and more mainstream in the recruitment industry.
Giles Elliott has travelled the world with his career in banking and financial services technology. He’ll be using his knowledge and industry insight to help shape Astriid’s mission… that is, when his feet are firmly on the ground and not flying a plane or racing a motorcycle in his free time!
Jo Self-Shutts has unique insight into how Astriid came about. As founder David’s wife, she was there right from the beginning. Here, she tells us about the charity’s development, her fundraising achievements, and her hopes for the project’s future.
Known for her environmentally and socially conscious ways of working, today we’re chatting with Astriid Trustee Camilla Faith. From her background in HR, she shares her thoughts on the benefits of flexible working practice for both employers and employees, as well as advice for prospective talent seeking opportunities in her own sector.
Martin Davies is an IT Consultant, Executive Coach, and Adventurer Extraordinaire. Here, he shares what his experience in the sector has taught him and how he hopes to use his unique skills to better the lives of others.
Dan Rogers knows the ins and outs of the recruitment market, and the challenges employers can face. He shares how he came to be involved with Astriid, and his belief that the platform can tackle some of these issues head-on ... a similar approach he takes in his free time as a volunteer, fundraiser and qualified Mountain Leader!
